Counselors

Normally we have two counselors in each cabin with a maximum of 8 campers. One counselor is designated the Senior Counselor and the other the Junior Counselor. Senior Counselors must be high school graduates and preferably are upperclassmen in college or adults. Junior Counselors are usually rising juniors or seniors (occasionally sophomores) in high school, or recent graduates (15-19 years of age).

Senior Counselors have the primary responsibility for the cabin groups, as well as for teaching a Bible class. In addition to some cabin duties, Junior Counselors help with serving food and cleaning dishes (girls), and with cleaning and mopping the dining hall, restrooms, etc. (boys). Junior and Senior Counselors instruct or assist with one or more of the afternoon activities.

Senior Counselors receive from $240.00 to $300.00 per week, depending upon qualifications and experience. Junior Counselors receive no actual money. All staff, however, receive full room and board, laundry services, a free camp shirt, and a weekly allowance of $20.00 in the camp stores (Book Nook and Snak Shak).

Cooks

Usually there are three volunteers a week (husbands and wives welcome). Menus are planned in advance, food is kept simple, the Director’s wife oversees the food preparation, Junior Counselors wash dishes and clean up. Though there is no actual pay, children of volunteer cooks can come to camp for half price.

Nurse/Secretary

Responsibilities involve taking care of the medical needs of campers and staff including the daily dispensing of medications campers bring to camp. Also there is some secretarial work in relation to registrations of campers, answering mail requests for information, answering the telephone, and other responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Director. Pay is similar to Senior Counselor and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Our camp season for campers runs from June 15th through August 2nd during the summer of 2008. All Senior Counselors are required to be here also for 8 days of training and preparation just prior to this, making the entire season for them to be June 7th through August 2nd.

Cooks usually volunteer for one week. Junior Counselors may stay for less than the full season, such as two, three, or four weeks. Senior Counselors should plan to stay for the entire nine weeks.

Please call “collect” if you have questions about any of these opportunities at summer camp. Our phone number is 540/997-9316 (day or night).
